Marqués de Riscal
Historic Spanish winemaking combining Rioja tradition, innovation and internationally recognised quality.
Marqués de Riscal is one of Spain’s most historic and internationally recognised wineries. Founded in 1858, the winery played an important role in introducing modern Bordeaux-influenced winemaking techniques to Rioja and has remained closely associated with innovation, quality and elegant Spanish wine.
The winery
The winery was founded in Elciego, in the heart of Rioja Alavesa. Its original cellar was constructed in 1860 and remains part of the historic estate today.
Marqués de Riscal later expanded into Rueda, becoming an important producer of fresh white wines as well as its internationally recognised Rioja reds. The estate is now also known for the City of Wine and its landmark hotel designed by architect Frank Gehry.
Style and character
Marqués de Riscal wines combine tradition with a polished, accessible style. The Rioja reds are known for ripe fruit, elegance, fine tannins and carefully integrated oak, while the Rueda whites offer freshness, aromatic intensity and crisp acidity.
