Bodegas Muga is one of Rioja’s most respected family wineries, combining traditional winemaking techniques with precision, quality and a strong sense of place. Founded in 1932, the winery is based in Haro’s historic Barrio de la Estación.
The winery
Bodegas Muga was founded by Isaac Muga and Aurora Caño and has remained under family ownership for three generations. Its winery occupies a historic building in Haro, one of the most important centres of Rioja wine production.
Muga is particularly distinctive for its use of oak throughout the production and ageing process. It is the only winery in Spain with three in-house master coopers and barrel makers, allowing it to produce and maintain its own vats and barrels.
Style and character
Muga wines balance ripe fruit, structure and carefully judged oak with the freshness and elegance associated with high-quality Rioja. The range includes approachable crianza-style wines, complex reservas, long-aged reds, white wines, rosé and traditional-method sparkling wines.
